Evans.<\/em>\n \n\n I have followed the flow of the river\n From the springs and the rills, where at first\n Through the grasses and ferns all entangled\n As a stream into sunlight is burst;\n I have followed its devious windings\n \u2018Neath the bending of boughs interlaced\n And have marked how it deepened and widened\n As its course to the ocean was traced:\n And so wide and so deep is the river\n As it surges and flows to the sea\n That the springs and the rills are forgotten\u2014\n E\u2019en the place where it first came to be.\n I had often o\u2019erbounded the river,\n With a sportive and boyishlike pride\n But today only line as of shadow\n Marks the far away opposite side.\n \n We were children, and stood by the river,\n Then a narrow and silvery band\u2014\n I suggested we follow the water\n While we held one another by hand:\n Through the tall tangled grasses we wandered\n By the banks of the musical stream\n As it tinkled, and murmured, and cadenced\n Like the mystical tones in a dream:\n Ah, the day was so fair!
