Guest.<\/em>\n \n\n I hold that gardening\u2019s splendid fun.\n \u00a0 \u00a0 I am the chap that some think odd.\n I like to rise and greet the sun\n \u00a0 \u00a0 To turn and break the stubborn clod.\n It\u2019s great to spend an hour or two\n \u00a0 \u00a0 Some care unto the back yard giving;\n But this I will admit to you:\n \u00a0 \u00a0 I\u2019d hate to do it for a living.\n \n There is no toil that quite compares\n \u00a0 \u00a0 To delving daily with a spade\n And with a hoe cut down the tares\n \u00a0 \u00a0 Or bring a front lawn up to grade.\n With joy it makes the pulses throb\n \u00a0 \u00a0 And starts the heart beating gaily;\n \u2019Tis true I glory in the job\n \u00a0 \u00a0 But I would hate to do it daily.\n \n Take it from me, you sluggish men\n \u00a0 \u00a0 Whose arteries may someday harden\n For lack of work. \u2019Tis truth I pen;\n \u00a0 \u00a0 You ought to labor in a garden.\n Go bend your backs above a spade\n \u00a0 \u00a0 And strain your muscles with a hoe;\n There is no more delightful trade\n \u00a0 \u00a0 Unless that way you earn your dough.\n \n I glory in the stubborn ground\n \u00a0 \u00a0 And conquer it with fertilizer\n Now every morning I am found\n \u00a0 \u00a0 A bright and smiling early riser.\n It\u2019s fun to haul in loads of dirt\n \u00a0 \u00a0 And lug out chunks of solid clay;\n In confidence, though, I\u2019ll assert:\n \u00a0 \u00a0 I\u2019d hate to do it by the day.\n \n Think you I mind this aching back\n \u00a0 \u00a0 Or care because my muscles twinge\n Or that my bones, with each attack\n \u00a0 \u00a0 Remind me of a rusty hinge?\n No!
