It was an old, old, old, old lady,
    And a boy that was half-past three;
And the way that they played together
    Was beautiful to see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She couldn\u2019t go running and jumping,
    And the boy, no more could he,
For he was a thin little fellow,
    With a thin little twisted knee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They sat in the yellow sunlight,
    Out under the maple tree,
And the game that they played I\u2019ll tell you,
    Just as it was told to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was Hide-and-Go-Seek they were playing,
    Though you\u2019d never have known it to be\u2014
With an old, old, old, old lady
    And the boy with the twisted knee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The boy would bend his face down
    On his one little sound right knee,
And he\u2019d guess where she was hiding,
    In guesses One, Two, Three!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou are in the china closet!\u201d
    He would cry and laugh with glee\u2014
It wasn\u2019t the china closet,
    But still he had Two and Three.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou are in papa\u2019s big bedroom,
    In the chest with the queer old key!\u201d
And she said, \u201cYou are warm and warmer,
    But you\u2019re not quite right,\u201d said she.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt can\u2019t be the little cupboard
    Where mamma\u2019s things used to be,
So it must be the clothespress, gran\u2019ma!\u201d
    And he found her with his Three.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then she covered her face with her fingers,
    That were wrinkled and white and wee,
And she guessed where the boy was hiding,
