By Philander Johnson.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My Uncle Jim has done \u2018most everything there is to do.<br>He says life\u2019s not worth livin\u2019 when there isn\u2019t something new<br>To hold a man\u2019s attention. He has tamed a buckin\u2019 hoss<br>And drove in trottin\u2019 races without grumblin\u2019 at the loss.<br>He has taken railroad journeys an\u2019 he\u2019s viewed the buildin\u2019s high;<br>He\u2019s lost a stack of poker chips an\u2019 never blinked an eye.<br>But his latest fad\u2019s the queerest that has ever come to him.<br>He\u2019s writin\u2019 poetry! Jes\u2019 think of that fur Uncle Jim!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He writes about the stable an\u2019 the haystack an\u2019 the cows<br>An\u2019 comes as near profanity as the police allows.<br>He jiggles an\u2019 he joggles till he gets \u2018round to a rhyme<br>An\u2019 don\u2019t keer what he says, so long as he is keepin\u2019 time!<br>We used to think he\u2019d mebbe be a man of useful mold,<br>A blacksmith or a congressman or else a farm-hand bold.<br>But now we think his chances for great things are mighty slim.<br>He\u2019s writin\u2019 poems; an\u2019 that\u2019ll be \u2018bout all from Uncle Jim.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Evening Star, October 15, 1913.
