By Berton Braley.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Girlie, I\u2019ve noticed the flashy guy,<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; The one who\u2019s chasing around with you;<br>Believe me sister, he don\u2019t get by;<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; You want to chuck him\u2014and sudden, too;<br>He may look grand and he may talk great,<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; But take my warning and cut him out,<br>For the guy who\u2019s honest and true and straight<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; Don\u2019t court his girl by the high-ball route!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Them friends of his that you\u2019ve had to meet<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; Ain\u2019t just the kind that you ought to choose,<br>For how kin a decent girl keep sweet<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; In a crowd that\u2019s given to paint and booze?<br>There\u2019s too much glitter and flash and glare;<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; That duck\u2019s too much of a \u201cgood old scout;\u201d<br>Believe me sister, the guy who\u2019s square<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; Don\u2019t court his girl by the high-ball route!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You get some feller that thinks you\u2019re queen<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; And tries to keep you from any wrong;<br>This present party is far too keen<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; On leadin\u2019 you off with the giddy throng;<br>The true-blue feller will treat you white,<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; But not where the spigots fizz and spout;<br>Believe me, sister, the guy who\u2019s right<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; Don\u2019t court his girl by the high-ball route!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From The Tacoma Times, January 14, 1914.
