Kiser.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI claim it takes more brains to farm,\u201d said Ebenezer Brown,<br>\u201cThan what it does to git ahead and make a splash in town;<br>Why, I know six or seven chaps from this here neighborhood<br>Who went away to cities, where they\u2019re busy makin\u2019 good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou take Chicago and New York\u2014size up the big men there\u2014<br>The lawyer, doctor, merchant and the multimillionaire\u2014<br>You\u2019ll find they\u2019ve all been farmer boys, or lived in towns, at least,<br>Where they could have a chance to learn the ways of bird and beast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNow, take these city chaps who come to cultivate the land\u2014<br>I don\u2019t mean millionaires who farm for fun, you understand\u2014<br>But take the common city folks who try to farm, and say!<br>It\u2019s pitiful the way they try to make their farmin\u2019 pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve saw a dozen of \u2018em fall; I never seen one yet<br>Who managed to be prominent or not get into debt;<br>And so I claim a man may make an awful splash in town<br>And not have brains enough to farm,\u201d said Ebenezer Brown.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Omaha Daily Bee, February 20, 1914.
