How you hold your youth!\u201d<br>Who shrinks not at the future when he has a lie to tell,<br>But when you\u2019re sick and tired and blue, declares, \u201cYou\u2019re looking well!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s to the man who tells us lies when solemn truth would hurt,<br>Who says, \u201cI\u2019ll back you through and through, if it should take my shirt,\u201d<br>Who, when you\u2019re \u201coff\u201d and cannot write just as you think you should,<br>Will tune you up for better things with, \u201cThat\u2019s what I call good!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or when you paint a picture that is wrong in every part,<br>Will make you think the daub is great by saying, \u201cNow, that\u2019s art!\u201d<br>He lies\u2014but it\u2019s in charity, if lying ever was,<br>So here\u2019s his health, for though he lies, he\u2019s honest when he does.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the New York Tribune, April 12, 1914.
