{"id":8116,"date":"2022-04-21T01:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-04-21T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newspaperhistory.com\/?p=8116"},"modified":"2022-04-21T01:00:00","modified_gmt":"2022-04-21T05:00:00","slug":"nearness-of-nature","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/desperaudio.com\/newspaperpoetry\/nearness-of-nature\/","title":{"rendered":"Nearness of Nature"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>From the <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/chroniclingamerica.loc.gov\/lccn\/sn99021999\/1914-04-21\/ed-1\/seq-6\/\"><em>Omaha Daily Bee, April 21, 1914<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nature is no distant dame<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; All aloofness in her mien;<br>Mistress Nature is the same<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; Unto peasant, unto queen\u2014<br>Yea, the sun of summer sweet<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; Shuttered from a sheltered crown<br>Kisses little children\u2019s feet<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; That are bravely bare and brown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They who seek her need not fare<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; Over dim, mysterious hills;<br>Always she is sitting there<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; On our dusty window sills.<br>When the traffic hesitates<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; Where the human river pours<br>Nature creeps through city gates<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; Knocking at our city doors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nature plants courageous grass<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; In the cobbled market place<br>Where the weary thousands pass<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; Bent of form and sad of face.<br>She comes creeping, creeping so<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; From the country unawares,<br>With her roses in a row<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; And her ivy on the stairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only just a little way,<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; Alley first and avenue,<br>Out a road of sturdy clay<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; Mistress Nature beckons you.<br>Very near the busy mart,<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; Very near the huts of men,<br>Nature waits with merry heart\u2014<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; Let her make you glad again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Omaha Daily Bee, April 21, 1914.
