By Philander Johnson.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>No dangers lurk in the display<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Of sizz-wheel or of rocket.<br\/>So safe and sane we\u2019ve made the day<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;That no one dares to knock it.<br\/>We\u2019ll organize a picnic crowd.<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;We\u2019ll have a fine attendance<br\/>And father will recite aloud<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;About our Independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Some pickles and some eggs we\u2019ll take<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And pie\u2014we\u2019ll have to risk it.<br\/>We\u2019ll have ice cream, sardines and cake<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And special homemade biscuit.<br\/>We are a bold and hardy race,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;But on the day in question<br\/>The only perils we can face<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Are those of indigestion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Evening Star, June 23, 1914.
