By Henry Kelman.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>I go a-gunning, but take no gun;<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;I fish without a pole;<br\/>And I bag good game and catch such fish<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;As suit a sportsman\u2019s soul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>For the choicest game that the forest holds,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And the best fish of the brook<br\/>Are never brought down by a rifle shot,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And are never caught with a hook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>I bob for fish by the forest brook,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;I hunt for game in the trees.<br\/>For bigger birds than wing the air<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Or fish than swim the seas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>A rodless Walton of the brooks,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;A bloodless sportsman I\u2014<br\/>I hunt for the thoughts that throng the woods,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The dreams that haunt the sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>The woods were made for the hunters of dreams,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The brooks for the fishers of song;<br\/>To the hunters who hunt for the gunless game<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The streams and the woods belong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>There are thoughts that moan from the soul of the pine,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And thoughts in a flower bell curled;<br\/>And the thoughts that are blown with the scent of the fern<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Are as new and as old as the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From The Sun, June 28, 1914.
