By Henry Howland.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>A man prefers the one who makes him laugh;<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The cares that he must carry through the day<br\/>Are forgotten or diminished more than half<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;If there\u2019s just a chance to laugh along the way!<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;But woman\u2014ah, God bless her\u2014<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;How her heart does ever leap<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;With love\u2014true love and tender\u2014<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;For the man who makes her weep!<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>I like the maid who gives me cause to smile,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;I love the child that gives me little care;<br\/>Men praise the ones who keep them laughing while<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;They bend beneath the burdens they must bear.<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;But woman\u2014ah, God bless her!\u2014<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Her love is true and deep<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;For the child that brings her sorrow<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And the man who makes her weep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Rock Island Argus, July 16, 1914.
