By McLandburgh Wilson.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Germans and Austrians turn on the world,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Sounding their battle alarms;<br\/>English, French, Russians and Serbs are all hurled<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Crushing the others in arms.<br\/>Still is a greater alliance that sweeps<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Leading forever the van;<br\/>One that includes every woman who weeps,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;One that includes every man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Soldiers shall rot in the land of the foe;<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Widows shall sorrow forlorn;<br\/>Babes shall come into a world full of woe<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Orphaned before they are born.<br\/>This is the triple alliance that bears<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Brunt of the carnage so wild;<br\/>Greatest, most ancient of all earth\u2019s affairs,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Father and mother and child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From The Sun, August 7, 1914.
