By Philander Johnson.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Oh, the man who utters warnings,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;He is busy nights and mornings!<br\/>He is busy in the north and in the south!<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;He reminds us of the evil<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;That attends each moth or weevil,<br\/>And is particularly eloquent on drouth.<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;He will talk about the weather,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;He will get reports together<br\/>From the musty, dusty data of the past,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And he\u2019ll have you a-tremble,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Till your fears you can\u2019t dissemble,<br\/>Every time the sky is slightly overcast.<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;He will take the saddest cases<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Of all history for the basis<br\/>Of a wail which to the present he\u2019ll apply.<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;All the tragedy and sorrow<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Of the ages he will borrow<br\/>And parade them with a melancholy sigh.<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;We respect him while we fear him<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;As we grimly pause to hear him<br\/>Giving notice of a future very blue.<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Then we conquer our dejection<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;By the pertinent reflection<br\/>That the most of what he says does not come true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Evening Star, October 14, 1914.
