Hendree.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Who has not had some little life-romance\u2014<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Some dream of love so painful, yet so sweet?<br\/>Who has not felt his heart thrilled by a glance,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Nor known the ecstacy when fond lips meet?<br\/>Such things grow tasteless as the years advance<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And age cools down the blood from feverheat;<br\/>But still, although the thought of passion dies,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;We linger fondly o\u2019er its memories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Few ever marry their first early love;<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;But after one has mingled in the strife<br\/>Of varied passions\u2014after fate has wove<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;More than one broken thread into his life,<br\/>Then he begins to feel the dearth of love,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And takes into his heart and home a wife;<br\/>And oft, though love be wanting at the first,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;A sweet affection grows, by circumstances nursed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>But still through all there oftentimes will break<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;A whisper of the past we had thought dumb,<br\/>And recollections swift and sweet will make<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The present seem so sad and wearisome;<br\/>It sometimes seems as if the heart would break<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In thinking of the dreary years to come,<br\/>And for the moment in our hearts we sin<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;With vain regrets of that which might have been.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From The Birmingham Age Herald, October 19, 1914.
