{"id":8580,"date":"2022-10-26T01:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-26T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newspaperhistory.com\/?p=8580"},"modified":"2022-10-26T01:00:00","modified_gmt":"2022-10-26T05:00:00","slug":"october-party","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/desperaudio.com\/newspaperpoetry\/october-party\/","title":{"rendered":"October Party"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>From the <a href=\"https:\/\/chroniclingamerica.loc.gov\/lccn\/sn89074405\/1914-10-26\/ed-1\/seq-10\/\">Grand Forks Daily Herald, October 26, 1914<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>October gave a party;<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The leaves by hundreds came\u2014<br\/>The Ashes, Oaks and Maples<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And those of every name.<br\/>The sunshine spread a carpet,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And everything was grand.<br\/>Miss Weather led the dancing,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Professor Wind the band.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>The Chestnut came in yellow,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The Oaks in crimson dressed;<br\/>The lovely Misses Maple<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In scarlet looked the best,<br\/>And balanced all their partners,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And gayly fluttered by;<br\/>The sight was like a rainbow<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;New fallen from the sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Then, in the rustic hollows<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;At \u201chide-and-seek\u201d they played.<br\/>The party closed at sundown,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And everybody stayed.<br\/>Professor Wind played louder;<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;They flew along the ground,<br\/>And then the party ended<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In jolly \u201chands around.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Grand Forks Daily Herald, October 26, 1914.
