A rose I brought from Fancy\u2019s bowers;
    She waved my offering away,
And said, \u201cThe vows of youth are flowers,
    And wither like them in a day.\u201d
Unheeded now her way she goes\u2014
    My passion faded like the rose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I trod the mountain-peak of years;
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Time\u2019s snowflakes mingled with my hair;
My heart was free from hopes and fears\u2014
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Then Fate unveiled a maiden fair.
I sought the flower that will not fade,
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0And brought a blossom to the maid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its fadeless bloom no message told;
    Flung under foot the blossom lay.
She said, \u201cIt grows in Winter\u2019s cold,
    And youth must have the buds of May.
Your flower and you are of the snows\u2014
