By D\u2019Orsay Allen Poor.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s plenty of men who cannot sing,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;There\u2019s plenty who cannot draw,<br\/>That we can spare, with never a care,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;To the terrible god of war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s plenty of men who cannot paint,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;There\u2019s plenty who cannot write,<br\/>To be sent to the front of the battles\u2019 brunt<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;To give up their lives in the fight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s plenty of men we can easily spare<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The toilers and lowly ones,<br\/>Whose battle in life is a long, long strife\u2014<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Let us feed such as these to the guns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>For it seems such a pity to waste a voice<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;That adds to society\u2019s joys;<br\/>So guard them well from the storms of hell<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And send on the working boys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>So gather your men from factory and farm,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And hasten them into the strife,<br\/>So when they leave there is none to grieve<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Except mother and children and wife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From The Times Dispatch, October 29, 1914.
