By Berton Braley.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>When a ship puts out to sea<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Swinging slowly from the quay,<br\/>Somehow warm enchantment gleams<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;From each mast and stack and spar<br\/>As she takes the trail o\u2019 dreams<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Where all brave adventures are.<br\/>Life seems big and blithe and free<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;When a ship puts out to sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Slaves of time and circumstance,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Humdrum folk and dull are we,<br\/>Yet we sense the old romance<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;When a ship puts out to sea,<br\/>And we watch her flag unfurled<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;To the wind that sweeps the world,<br\/>Watch her dim and fade and then<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Sighing, turn to toil again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Yet, although we may not be<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;With her on the deeps that call,<br\/>We can feel the mystery<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And the glamour of it all\u2014<br\/>When a ship puts out to sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Harrisburg Telegraph, November 3, 1914.
