Oh Maud!<br\/>Some of youse girls came early and has beat me to my wad.\u201d<br\/>The girls denied that they had took the gum and walked away,<br\/>But they did hang their heads in shame when Kate she then did say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI may be but a working girl, but working girls has rights,<br\/>And to preserve that wad of gum I kept it here at nights.<br\/>And no girl ain\u2019t no lady, and a crook she has become<br\/>Who\u2019d steal from any working girl her only wad of gum.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From The Sun, November 15, 1914.
