By Sara Teasdale.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>I said, \u201cI will take my life<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And throw it away;<br\/>I who was fire and song<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Will turn to clay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI will lie no more in the night<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;With shaken breath.<br\/>I will toss my heart in the air<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;To be caught by Death.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>But out of the night I heard,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Like the inland sound of the sea,<br\/>The hushed and terrible sob<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Of all humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Then I said, \u201cOh, who am I<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;To scorn God to His face?<br\/>I will bow my head and stay<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And suffer with my race.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Albuquerque Morning Journal, November 16, 1914.
