By Irwin.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>When you are dead and buried, friend,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;There\u2019s nothing to delight or grieve you;<br\/>You live, you die, and that\u2019s the end,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Let no religious myth deceive you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Your goodly wife no more will meet<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;You as you wave the evening paper;<br\/>Once dead you\u2019ll read no sporting sheet,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;You\u2019ll cut no latest fox-trot caper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>For death destroys your petty \u201cI,\u201d<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;You do not know that you\u2019ve existed;<br\/>Though folks may pity you, and cry,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;They\u2019ve got their metaphysics twisted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>They weep for you and mourn your fate,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And prate of all the joys you\u2019re losing;<br\/>You\u2019re happy (this they never state),<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In one eternal, dreamless snoozing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>They moan, dissolved in salty tears,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Their wailing is a mournful riot;<br\/>The fools!
