Montague.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>When the happy little children, up along the avenue<br\/>Hark for Santa Claus\u2019s coming down the yawning chimney flue,<br\/>There\u2019ll be other little children, in another part of town<br\/>Where the streets are dark and grimy and the houses tumble down,<br\/>Looking through the dingy windows toward the snowflake speckled sky,<br\/>Wondering if they will see him when he comes careering by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Ragged, dirty little children, yet as eager for the joys<br\/>That will come to countless houses with the Christmas morning toys,<br\/>As the vastly happier children who awaken every year<br\/>To the news from down the staircase: \u201cMr. Santa Claus was here!\u201d<br\/>Gaunt and pallid little children, oh so pitiful to see,<br\/>But as hungry to be happy as all children ought to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Such a little would delight them, just a trifling toy or two,<br\/>Just one real old-fashioned Christmas that would make their dreams come true.<br\/>Tell old Santa Claus about them, show the old man where they live,<br\/>Let him leave them all the good things that he likes so well to give,<br\/>Then go \u2018round on Christmas morning, and you\u2019ll find it\u2019s well worth while;<br\/>For the best of all investments is to buy a baby\u2019s smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Newark Evening Star, December 14, 1914.
