By Ella Wheeler Wilcox.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>The days grow shorter, the nights grow longer;<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The headstones thicken along the way;<br\/>And life grows sadder, but loves grows stronger,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;For those who walk with us day by day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>The tear comes quicker, the laugh comes slower;<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The courage is lesser to do and dare;<br\/>And the tide of joy in the heart falls lower<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And seldom covers the reefs of care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>But all true things in the world seem truer,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And the better things of earth seem best,<br\/>And friends are dearer as friends are fewer,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And love is all as our sun dips west.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Then let us clasp hands as we walk together,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And let us speak softly in love\u2019s sweet tone;<br\/>For no man knows on the morrow whether<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;We two pass on\u2014or but one alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Evening Star, December 20, 1914.
