Moulton.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>How dear to my heart are the gifts of my childhood,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;When fond recollections present them to view;<br\/>The old rubber doll with the whistling stomach,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Which was such a miracle when it was new.<br\/>The handpainted sled and the 20-cent jackkife,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The animal blocks and the little tin train<br\/>Brought joy to our hearts that amounted to rapture,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;A joy that we never will pass through again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>The fine jumping jack and the model pile driver,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The hose cart and engine that pulled with a string;<br\/>The top hook and ladder, the real magic lantern,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The drum which my father would burst the first thing.<br\/>Of course, nowadays they would seem sort of foolish\u2014<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The things that old Santa brought when we were small;<br\/>But when you consider the joy that they gave us,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The old-fashioned presents were best after all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From The Daily Missoulian, December 22, 1914.
