By Theodosia Garrison.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Sleep at the Inn o\u2019 Dreams\u2014<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;A kindly host he waits,<br\/>And all night long a goodly throng<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Comes softly through his gates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>A varied company\u2014<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Scholar and clown and king,<br\/>Or prince or priest, or great or least,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;He gives them welcoming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>For each he fills the cup<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Where poppy petals swim,<br\/>Wherefrom each guest at his behest<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Drinks deeply, toasting him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>And old men drink of youth,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And sad men of delight,<br\/>And weary men drink deep again<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The pulsing wine of might.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>And poets drink of song,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;But best and oh, most sweet,<br\/>Above that brim where poppies swim<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The lips of lovers meet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Sleep at the Inn o\u2019 Dreams\u2014<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;A kindly host he waits,<br\/>And all night long a goodly throng<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Comes softly through his gates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From The Birmingham Age Herald, December 29, 1914.
