Haskins.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>With travel stained feet<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Stands the lonesome youth<br\/>One hour long<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In the library booth.<br\/>Bending, homesick,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;All the while<br\/>Over a blessed<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Newspaper file.<br\/>Homely old paper,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Looks to me;<br\/>Banal and trite,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;It seems to be,<br\/>But watch his eyes scan it<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Up and down,<br\/>Blessed old paper<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;From the blessed home town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Type is shabby<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And ink is poor.<br\/>Has a colored supplement<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;For a lure;<br\/>Gives advice to girls<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And hints on dress,<br\/>Steers new married couples<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;To happiness;<br\/>Yet in the trite sheet<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;A vista lies<br\/>Of the Somewhere Else<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;To those homesick eyes,<br\/>Of the Somewhere Else<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;With its memories sweet<br\/>To the lonesome youth<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;With the travel stained feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From The Sun, January 29, 1915.
