By Kendall Banning.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Once on a time, once on a time,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Before the Dawn began,<br\/>There was a nymph of Dian\u2019s train<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Who was beloved of Pan;<br\/>Once on a time a peasant lad<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Who loved a lass at home;<br\/>Once on a time a Saxon king<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Who loved a queen of Rome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>The world has but one song to sing,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And it is ever new.<br\/>The first and last of all the songs,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;For it is ever true\u2014<br\/>A little song, a tender song,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The only song it hath;<br\/>\u201cThere was a youth of Ascalon<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Who loved a girl of Gath.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>A thousand thousand years have gone,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And aeons still shall pass,<br\/>Yet shall the world forever sing<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Of him who loved a lass\u2014<br\/>An olden song, a golden song,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And sing it unafraid:<br\/>\u201cThere was a youth, once on a time,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Who dearly loved a maid.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Albuquerque Morning Journal, January 31, 1915.
