By Edmund Vance Cooke.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Twenty bad men in the bar one night,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Each one shoving his foot on the rail;<br\/>None of them sober and most of them tight,<br\/>Every one cussing to kick up a fight,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Each one a devil and swinging his tail;<br\/>Most of them dead when the scrap was done\u2014<br\/>Nobody knew how the row had begun!<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>A squally day and a celluloid boat,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Launched on a river of gasoline;<br\/>\u201cAs freaky a craft as was ever afloat,\u201d<br\/>The captain swore in his husky throat,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cWith her firebox next to her magazine.\u201d<br\/>He lighted his pipe and tossed his match\u2014<br\/>Now how could the conflagration catch?<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Generals, admirals, emperors, kings,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And babes from the cradle trained to kill;<br\/>Davids swinging Goliath slings,<br\/>Navies filled with eagle wings,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Nations of armies, life a drill.<br\/>Courtiers cunning in wild excuse\u2014<br\/>What a surprise when the war broke loose!<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From The Topeka State Journal, February 10, 1915.
