Humphrey.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>I am tired of tongues that are lying<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In their cunning schemes for gain\u2014<br\/>I am tired of worry and sighing<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;That ravish the soul and brain\u2014<br\/>And I long for the peace of the wildwood<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Near the dear old home that I miss,<br\/>And the happy trust of childhood,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And mother\u2019s good night kiss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>I am tired of faces smiling<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In deceit to hide the frown\u2014<br\/>And life\u2019s false joys beguiling<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The soul but to drag it down;<br\/>And I long once more to listen<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;To the sound of a step I miss\u2014<br\/>That I knew when the tears would glisten<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;At my mother\u2019s good night kiss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>I am tired of all the idols<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;That claim a right to my heart\u2014<br\/>I am tired of falsehoods\u2019 bridles<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;That are worn by all in the mart.<br\/>And it\u2019s ever the words that were spoken<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In truth and love that I miss\u2014<br\/>When each night I received their token<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In my mother\u2019s good night kiss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>I am tired of living and learning<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;That the false exceeds the true\u2014<br\/>I am tired with years of yearning<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;For a love like my childhood knew<br\/>When life seemed not deceiving,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And I dreamed it held but bliss\u2014<br\/>When I slept in peace believing<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In mother\u2019s good night kiss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Grand Forks Daily Herald, February 25, 1915.
