Holley.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>What am I offered for Baby?<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Dainty, dimpled and sweet<br\/>From the curls above his forehead<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;To the beautiful rosy feet,<br\/>From tips of his wee pink fingers<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;To the light of his clear blue eyes<br\/>What am I offered for Baby?<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Who\u2019ll buy? Who\u2019ll buy? Who\u2019ll buy?<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>What am I offered for Baby?<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cA shop full of sweets?\u201d Ah, no!<br\/>That\u2019s too much beneath his value<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Who is sweetest of all below!<br\/>The naughty, beautiful darling!<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;One kiss from his rosy mouth<br\/>Is better than all the dainties<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Of East, or West, or South.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>What am I offered for Baby?<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cA pile of gold?\u201d Ah dear,<br\/>Your gold is too hard and heavy<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;To purchase my brightness here.<br\/>Would the treasures of all the mountains<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Far in the wonderful lands<br\/>Be worth the clinging and clasping<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Of these dear little peach blow hands?<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>So what am I offered for Baby?<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cA rope of diamonds?\u201d Nay,<br\/>If your brilliants were larger and brighter<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Than the stars of the milky way,<br\/>Would they ever be half so precious<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;As the light of those lustrous eyes<br\/>Still full of the heavenly glory<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;They brought from beyond the skies?<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Then what am I offered for Baby?<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cA heart full of love and a kiss.\u201d<br\/>Well if anything ever could tempt me<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\u2018Twould be such an offer as this.<br\/>But how can I know if your loving<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Is tender and true and divine<br\/>Enough to repay what I\u2019m giving<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In selling this sweetheart of mine?<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>So we will not sell the Baby!<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Your gold and gems and stuff<br\/>Were they ever so rare and precious<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Would never be half enough!<br\/>For what would we care, my dearie,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;What glory the World put on<br\/>If our beautiful darling was going,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;If our beautiful darling was gone?<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Grand Forks Daily Herald, March 5, 1915.
