Moulton.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t marry scrubs,\u201d says Mr. Taft, and makes a subtle pause,<br\/>So all the rapt and listening maids can ripple their applause.<br\/>Indeed, \u2019tis sage and sound advice, for once a wedded wife,<br\/>A girl who\u2019s married to a scrub will lead an awful life.<br\/>A scrub will loaf, a scrub will booze, he\u2019ll gamble if it please him;<br\/>But how, pray tell us, is a girl to know one when she sees him?<br\/>A chesty fellow comes along, with manners like John Drew;<br\/>A knitted tie and green silk socks and eyes of lovely blue.<br\/>He looks the goods from heel to hair\u2014a regular high life swell;<br\/>He might well be a Claude Melnotte, but how\u2019s a girl to tell?<br\/>It means an awful lot to her, for if she is mistaken<br\/>She\u2019ll be the one to suffer when he can\u2019t bring home the bacon.<br\/>Another knock-kneed, seedy guy, who drives a grocery cart<br\/>May have beneath his battered vest a fourteen-karat heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From The Topeka State Journal, April 6, 1915.
