By Philander Johnson.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>There is a reason for each thing<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;That time brings to attention;<br\/>Though sudden changes often bring<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;A state of apprehension.<br\/>Somebody wears a funny hat,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;His friends straightway go dashin\u2019<br\/>To get some headgear just like that<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Because it is the fashion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Somebody uses language queer,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And others imitate it.<br\/>An epigram we chance to hear<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And straightway all orate it,<br\/>Not for the thought it may contain<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Nor poetry nor passion;<br\/>We simply hand it out again<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Because it is the fashion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>A stock wakes up some morning fine.<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Somebody thinks he\u2019ll try it.<br\/>The word is passed along the line<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And many rush to buy it.<br\/>Few of them pause to calculate<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;As ticker talk comes flashin\u2019.<br\/>It booms at an amazing rate<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Because it is the fashion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Evening Star, April 16, 1915.
