By Sydney Dare.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Mamma said, \u201cLittle one, go and see<br\/>If grandmother\u2019s ready to come to tea.\u201d<br\/>I knew I mustn\u2019t disturb her, so<br\/>I stepped very gently along, tip-toe,<br\/>And stood a moment to take a peep,<br\/>And there was grandmother, fast asleep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>I knew it was time for her to wake<br\/>And thought I\u2019d give her a little shake,<br\/>Or tap at her door, or softly call,<br\/>But I hadn\u2019t the heart for that at all.<br\/>She looked so sweet, and so quiet there,<br\/>Lying back in her high armchair,<br\/>With her dear white hair and a little smile<br\/>That means she\u2019s loving you all the while.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>I didn\u2019t make a speck of noise,<br\/>I knew she was dreaming of little boys<br\/>And girls, who lived with her long ago<br\/>And then went to heaven (she told me so).<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>I went close, but I didn\u2019t speak<br\/>One word, but I gave her on her cheek<br\/>The softest bit of a little kiss,<br\/>Just like a whisper, and then said this:<br\/>\u201cGrandmother, dear, it\u2019s time for tea.\u201d<br\/>She opened her eyes and looked at me<br\/>And said, \u201cWhy, pet, I have just now dreamed<br\/>Of a little angel who came, and seemed<br\/>To kiss me lovingly on my face.\u201d<br\/>She pointed right at the very place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>I never told her \u2019twas only me,<br\/>But took her hand and we went to tea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Evening Star, May 6, 1915.
