By Berton Braley.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Though the world is harsh and the game goes wrong<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And the skies are far from clearing,<br\/>And out of the vast uncaring throng<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;There\u2019s never a word that\u2019s cheering;<br\/>Though fortune shun me soon and late,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And destiny jolt and shove me,<br\/>I\u2019ll keep my nerve and I\u2019ll laugh at fate,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;While I have a friend to love me!<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>If I have one friend who is leal and true,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;One friend who will not alter,<br\/>I\u2019ll fight the world and the devil, too,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And never my heart shall falter.<br\/>Though I know despair and I know defeat<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And the clouds hang black above me,<br\/>I\u2019ll fear no fate that is mine to meet<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;While I have a friend to love me!<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Newark Evening Star, May 7, 1915.
