By Arthur Chapman.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>From old New York we journeyed westward\u2014<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\u2019Twas something like two weeks ago\u2014<br\/>We both were armed with six-foot tickets<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Which read for Sheridan, Wyo.;<br\/>When we arrived we bought sombreros<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;And I donned cowboy boots, well greased,<br\/>Yet people say, whene\u2019er they meet us:<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cWe see you folks are from the east.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>We thought a few more things were needed<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;To make us fit the western scene,<br\/>So chaps and spurs I quickly purchased\u2014<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Likewise a shirt of vivid green;<br\/>My wife is dressed like Annie Oakley\u2014<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She looks a movie queen at least\u2014<br\/>Yet people say, whene\u2019er they greet us:<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cWe see you\u2019re just here from the east.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve loaded up with deadly weapons,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;We\u2019ve raised our boot heels one inch more;<br\/>We\u2019re wearing hatbands made of snakeskin,<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;We\u2019ve read up on wild western lore;<br\/>We talk of trappers, scouts and cowboys;<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Each rides a livery stable beast;<br\/>But still we hear that hated greeting:<br\/>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cWe see you\u2019re not long from the east.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Omaha Daily Bee, May 24, 1915.
