By Philander Johnson.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Si Woggles was a grocer\u2019s clerk,<br\/>Who grew superior to his work.<br\/>He got to thinking more and more<br\/>That he knew how to run the store.<br\/>He pointed out with feelings grim<br\/>The profits that were due to him,<br\/>And he attributed each loss<br\/>To interference by the boss.<br\/>It fairly made him weep to see<br\/>How obstinate the boss could be.<br\/>Si reasoned with him and he tried<br\/>To check those efforts misapplied.<br\/>That careless boss, he answered back<br\/>And said that He would Run the Shack!<br\/>The conscience of Si Woggles burned,<br\/>His thoughts to desperation turned,<br\/>Till finally his fretted mind<br\/>Became so fierce that Si resigned!<br\/>Sad was the day when Si no more<br\/>Came \u2018round to open up the store,<br\/>And weigh the merchandise with care<br\/>And gossip with a friendly air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>And yet the people came to buy.<br\/>Some few said, \u201cWhat\u2019s become of Si?\u201d<br\/>But somehow that old grocery store<br\/>Keeps doing business as of yore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Evening Star, June 9, 1915.
