From The Topeka State Journal, October 18, 1912<\/a><\/em>.\n \n\n The nights our hired girl stays home,\n \u00a0 An\u2019 don\u2019t expect her beau t\u2019 call,\n She\u2019s jes\u2019 as nice as she can be,\n \u00a0 An\u2019 doesn\u2019t hustle round at all.\n Sometimes she takes me on her knee\n \u00a0 And tells me tales of pirates bold\n That used t\u2019 sail upon the sea\n \u00a0 In search of silver and of gold.\n \n An\u2019 she don\u2019t pack me off t\u2019 bed\n \u00a0 As soon as supper time is through.\n Or tell me that I\u2019m in her way\n \u00a0 Becoz she\u2019s got her work t\u2019 do.\n But in the kitchen I can stay\n \u00a0 An\u2019 she jes\u2019 tells the finest things\n Of soldiers fightin\u2019 every day\n \u00a0 An\u2019 princes bold, an\u2019 evil kings.\n \n But when her beau is comin\u2019 up\n \u00a0 T\u2019 take her out t\u2019 see a show,\n She makes us hustle through our tea\n \u00a0 So\u2019s she can get dressed up to go.\n An\u2019 you jes\u2019 orter see her frown\n \u00a0 If Paw sits talking very long,\n An\u2019 you should hear her bang around\n \u00a0 T\u2019 let him know he\u2019s doin\u2019 wrong.\n \n An\u2019 Maw don\u2019t dast t\u2019 say a word,\n \u00a0 An\u2019 Paw jes\u2019 swallers down his tea,\n An\u2019 then she grabs the dishes up,\n \u00a0 An\u2019 says she ain\u2019t got time fer me.\n You orter hear her rattle plates\n \u00a0 An\u2019 see her grab each dish and cup,\n An\u2019 wash \u2018em clean as quick as that\n \u00a0 The nights her beau is comin\u2019 up.\n \n She don\u2019t have time for stories then,\n \u00a0 Or nothin\u2019 else I want t\u2019 do.\n Paw says there is no stoppin\u2019 her\n \u00a0 When she is eager t\u2019 git through.\n An\u2019 I git hustled off t\u2019 bed,\n \u00a0 An\u2019 I don\u2019t like it, not at all,\n I can\u2019t see why she acts that way\n \u00a0 Jes\u2019 coz her beau is goin\u2019 t\u2019 call.<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
